Welcome to 2024!! At KCL, we anticipate continued growth with new options in manufacturing, alternative polymers, and increased methods to treat irregular optical prescriptions and unusual corneal topographies.

We are disappointed that certain partners in solution manufacturing have discontinued many of our favorite cleaning and disinfecting products for patients. Oddly, the executives within these pharmaceutical companies never asked our opinions or that of thousands of contact lens specialists around the world!!! For example, Refine One Step, a peroxide-based product with lubrication benefits, has ceased to be manufactured in Europe –where it was developed. Sadly, the only current alternative is Clear Care which requires better rinsing to assure complete neutralization--- we advise Purilens for rinsing because it is preservative free!!! Please call us if you have any questions or concerns!!

Many hybrid lens modalities continue to evolve for astigmatism, for multifocals, and for highly irregular corneal shapes with pathologies or scar tissue. At KCL, we work closely with all local Ophthalmology groups, Optometrists, Wills Eye Hospital, and Nemours Hospital for Children. Patients are also referred to KCL from Allentown, Bethlehem, Chester/Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania; Salisbury, Md.; and Sussex and Kent Counties in Delaware. Our staff has unique experiences and uses those skills with compassion and patience. Mary, Mary Jo, Kim, and Patti are all here to serve your needs and to expedite success.

The Winter months increase potential dryness as does our hours spent with the PCs, laptops, and even worse, our prolonged use of cell phones. We need to increase our usage of artificial tears, and water intake. Take a 30 second or more “visual break” from our electronic devices every 45 minutes. Look 15 or 20 feet in the distance!! Think, drink, and blink!

A new addition for ocular lubrication is Blink Triple Care. Effective by using before bed, early AM before lens wear, and even during the day!! Blink for Contacts, Blink Tears, and Blink -N- Clean can all be used with lenses in our eyes!! Even removing lenses earlier in the evening and using spectacles helps to rest our eyes.

Please call us at 302 475 1000 or e-mail me at contx52@comcast.net if you have questions or concerns. At KCL we are interested in your success, comfort, and acuity. As a team, we enjoy our ability to serve your needs and we expect your success for many years in the future!!!

Have a Happy/Healthy 2024,

All the best,

E. Paul Kuhwald,
Fellow, Contact Lens Society of America

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Paul Kuhwald for the past thirty-five years. I have found that he is an astute clinician, a compassionate colleague and a technical wizard when it comes to both contact lenses and understanding people. I trust my family and my patients to his care. His level of communication, personal ethics and sense of commitment are of the highest level. I have worked with many contact lens specialists who are ophthalmologists, optometrists and technicians. I have found that Paul is able to solve the entire spectrum of complicated corneal conditions, from the most rudimentary to the most complicated. For thirty-five years he has been able to fit my keratoconus and post corneal transplant high astigmatism patients. I have never had a fear that he would be unable to at least explore the possibilities for each individual patient. In that exploration, he gives them a total opportunity to participate in the options, even if they should select limited wear or choosing comfort over functional vision. The legions of people who have been helped speak highly of this man's capacity and ability. My only wish is that there were more of him in this world.
